From Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood to New York

Preparations for the PSO’s tour to New York City began this past week at WQED’s Studio A…

…the place where Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood was filmed for many years. The show’s castle scenery still sits just outside the studio entrance, here kept company by tables where PSO musicians have unpacked their instruments prior to rehearsal.

Inside the studio the back of the room is lorded over by a phalanx of bass packing trunks. After this rehearsal the instruments and equipment went directly onto a truck bound for the PSO’s first concert on Long Island. The morning schedule includes rehearsal of the Prokofiev Violin Concerto #1, Hilary Hahn, soloist.

High winds delayed flights out of Pittsburgh on Friday, but when the tip of Manhattan finally came into view the air was clear.

Saturday night found the Orchestra at the Tilles Center on Long Island. For an interactive view of the hall, click this link!
