PITTSBURGH – Assistant Conductor Fawzi Haimor will lead the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in an exciting, free concert at the South Park Amphitheater as a part of the 2013 Allegheny County Summer Concert Series. On Saturday, July 6 at 8 p.m. the show will feature many American classics in celebration of Independence Day.
The program opens with Rossini’s lively William Tell Overture, most famously used as the theme music for Lone Ranger radio and television shows. Classics from Gershwin, Beethoven and Marvin Hamlisch will also be performed. The second half of the concert is a tribute to the national holiday and will include many American staples such as Victor Herbert’s American Fantasie, John William’s Born on the Fourth of July, Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, the Armed Forces Salute and more.

Fawzi Haimor was named assistant conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra at the start of the 2012-2013 season. Prior to his Pittsburgh appointment, he was the assistant conductor of the Alabama Symphony for two seasons. In Alabama, he conducted a variety of concerts including subscription, pops, education and outreach. Additionally, Haimor worked with numerous orchestras including the Amman Symphony, Jacksonville Symphony, Kansas City Symphony and Orquestra Sinfonico do Porto and has collaborated with famous artists such as Bela Fleck, Bobby Horton, Diane Schuur and Luciana Souza. He also served as a cover conductor to esteemed conductors including Justin Brown, Marvin Hamlisch, Grant Llewellyn, Michael Morgan, Robert Spano, Stefan Sanderling and Michael Stern.
