As I sat with my paper and brushes on Friday night, listening to the Classical Mystery Tour and drawing along with Sgt. Pepper, I was sorry that I didn’t have the right Peter Max-inspired colors for my picture. On reflection, though, I found myself thinking about the way we all hear the music of the Beatles through our own memories of the other times, other places, when we’ve heard those recordings. The colors you would bring to each song would be different from the colors I remember. The Classical Mystery Tour evoked separate experiences for each listener, as the band members and the orchestra performed the music. I enjoyed the experience immensely, but noticed how different the concert felt – more a re-enactment than a freely rendered interpretation. So I offer you a coloring page – no need to stay within the lines!
