MUSIC DIRECTOR MANFRED HONECK BEGINS PITTSBURGH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA’S 2011-2012 SEASON WITH ‘MUSIQUE DU MONDE’ GALA
Acclaimed violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter is soloist; concert tickets on sale Aug. 15
PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO) returns to the Heinz Hall stage for the 2011-2012 season under the baton of Music Director Manfred Honeck with its gala event next month.
The Musique du Monde, or “World of Music,” concert will be at 7 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 17 with guest soloist, Grammy Award-winning violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter.
The gala is hosted by Event Chairs Susie and Roy Dorrance, Honorary Chairs Rick and Laurie Johnson, and Dick and Ginny Simmons, and Silent Auction Chairs Steve and Peggy McKnight.
The concert will feature Mutter in Mendelssohn’s Concerto in E minor for Violin and Orchestra, Opus 64, and Sarasate’s Fantasy on Bizet’s Carmen for Violin and Orchestra, Opus 25. The program also includes Mendelssohn’s “Italian” Symphony, Ravel’s Boléro, and a suite from Carmen by Bizet.
The concert marks 27-year-old Noah Bendix-Balgley’s debut as PSO Concertmaster.
Tickets for the PSO concert only ($25 – $110) are available to the general public beginning Monday, Aug. 15 and can be purchased by calling the Heinz Hall box office at 412.392.4900, or by visiting the PSO online at www.pittsburghsymphony.org. Ticket prices are subject to change.
Traditional gala packages, which include valet parking, a pre-concert cocktail hour, preferred concert seating, and a post-concert formal dinner catered by the Duquesne Club, followed by a dessert reception with Honeck, are sold out.
The Musique du Monde “Soiree” includes valet parking, pre-concert cocktail hour, preferred seating for the concert, and a post-concert celebration with PSO Musicians at the Renaissance Hotel with signature cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, music from DJ Benny Wood and a live performance by Cello Fury. Tickets are $150 to $200 per person. The Musique du Monde Soiree is chaired by Gerald Lee Morosco and Paul Ford, Jr., along with Honorary Chairs Erin and James Rimmel, Ed Stephan, and Rachel and Francis Wymard. The Soiree Silent Auction Chair is Jensina Chutz.
