PITTSBURGH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA PERFORMS FREE CONCERTS AT ALLEGHENY COUNTY PARKS

Sunday, July 3 at Hartwood Acres

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO) will be performing free concerts on Saturday, July 2, and Sunday, July 3 as a part of Allegheny County’s Parks Series.

PSO Assistant Conductor Thomas Hong will lead both concerts.

The concert on Saturday, July 2, at South Park will begin at 8 p.m. PSO Assistant Concertmaster Huei-Sheng Kao, violin, is the featured soloist. The program will feature Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, Op. 96; Gould’s Battle Hymn, based on William Steffe’s Battle Hymn of the Republic; Lowden’s Armed Forces Salute and Tchaikovsky’s 1812, Overture solennelle, Op. 49.

The July 3 concert at Hartwood Acres will begin at 8:15 p.m., with Associate Principal Viola Tatjana Mead Chamis as featured soloist. The program will include works by Smetana, Elgar and Dvořák.
