PITTSBURGH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA TO PLAY AT NEW YORK’S LINCOLN CENTER IN 2012

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra announced today that Music Director Manfred Honeck will lead the orchestra in a concert at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City next year.

The concert at Avery Fisher Hall will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012. The PSO last performed at Lincoln Center in 1991.

Violinist Hilary Hahn will be the guest soloist.

The program will feature a new work by PSO Composer of the Year for 2011-2012, Steven Stucky. The work will be commissioned by the PSO in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Pittsburgh-area environmentalist Rachel Carson’s groundbreaking book, Silent Spring.

The program also will include Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 1 and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5.
